Day 3

We arrived in Ketchikan at 6:30 in the morning. The ship docks right at the town so it was easy to walk around the there. There are a ton of jewelry stores, there were diamonds, tanznite that is only mined in one place in Canada, a new gem with the colors of the rainbow in it called Ammolite, pearls and black coral. There was also the normal shops of tee shirts and souveniers. Just to get the idea of how big the ship is, Dave took this from 2 blocks from the dock and the building is 2 stories high. No mater how far we walked, the ship was right there.

At one end of the small town was the lumberjck show that we went to. They are real lumberjacks that compete in those national lumberjack shows on ESPN. They put on a great show and were alot of fun. Our MC, Jan, was great at stiring the pot and getting everyone to cheer. They did all kinds of compitions.

Ketchikan is the first city in Alaska and pretty small but VERY busy, when the cruise ships come in. As soon as the last ship is pulling out the doors close and the employees go fishing!!

The weather was beautiful again and we can't believe our luck with it and we hope it holds. Tomorrow is Juneau, the Capital of Alaska.

We saw the comdian, Phil Tag's full show tonight. Poor dad got a very drunk lady next to him who was slurring at the top of her lungs and was laughing like a donkey at all the potty jokes, but all the others sailed right over her head and she was stupified. Good thing there were more deep jokes than potty ones :). He was great and has a web site.... www.comicphiltag.com... I think. You can check it out.

Love you all...

Day 2

Today was the first day at sea. It was morning it was foggy but cleared up quickly, looking like it was pulling back from the ship to the land. Again another beautiful sunny day. We are traveling up the coast of Canada and it comes into view every now and again. We played scrabble be the window watching the sea go by, went to dinner trying new foods but we have had so much food, we can't remember what we had. :) We went to a production called Cinematastic and then to a magic show where we where on the front row and totally amazed and entertained. Tomorrow we are in Kitchikan.

I am having a hard time finding an internet cafe that has access to download our photos... I will keep trying. Love and miss you all!!

First Day at Sea

This morning we packed our to go on the cruise from Seattle, went to Pikes Market and got some friut (an gala apple and a nectarine for $3.00) and to the park to see if we could see the ship. It was slightly cooler today, but sunny and beautiful.

Back at the hotel we the boarded a bus and went to dock 50 and checked in and boarded our ship. Our room has a window... although the view is paritally blocked by the rigging for lifeboats...we can still see pretty good and it lets the sun in. Yes, it is small and yes you can brush you teeth and take a shower at the same time :). We passed the coastline with their white clabber homes dotted among the pinetrees sitting on the edges of inlets and cliffs dropping to the ocean. Of course we got the soda card, without it you get tap water & iced tea, and Dave determined to get his $28 dollars worth of soda and juices and after the first day, at $3 a drink, dave is 1/2 way there.

We watched the welcome abaord show, where the comedian joked about delta loosing his bags saying Delta means "don't expect luggage to arrive", I say he should have gone with jetbBlue :). Then we ate dinner in the dining room. We played a trivia game with 2 other couples and won.... a bottle of champane and a deck of cards... guess which one we got. Earlier in the evening we went out on deck and it was foggy and chilly. Tonight it is down right cold and the captian is blaring the fog horn every 5 minutes or so. Seas are a little choppy and the higher floors vibrate. Can't wait to see what it looks like in the morning.

Bye Bye Ireland...

Well the trip to Ireland, that we have been planning for awhile, is not happening. The currency convertion rate is too much. For every $100 US dollars we would only get $52 Euros, so it would end up costing us about double what we were planning. So.... we have decided to take our money and go on a cruise to Alaska.

Alaska here we come!!! :) I am excited about the trip and we get to use our passports we got for the Ireland trip...hahaha. We will be in Seattle for 2 days and then on the Princess Star for 7 nights crusing the inland passage of Alaska and Canada. Dave signed us up for a train ride into Canada and a whale watching expedition. I will post photo when I can on the ship.

See you soon!!
